EQ2 Introduces Free-to-Play Servers

That's right, Free-to-Play (F2P). EQ2 is opening up a bevy of new servers that will be operating under a F2P payment model. To start with, for those people who want specific details of what was released and how it will effect you, please go to EQ2Players and look at the FAQ link and the subscription model chart in the upper right of the FAQ. You can find the article HERE.

For those that have read this, I'm sure you are wondering exactly how it will all work out for you. Well, for the immediate future, we most likely won't be affected by this change. However, down the road, we will probably run into a declining population off the current servers, as all new players are being funneled to the EQ2X (the new term for the EQ2 Extended servers which are F2P) servers and currently have no way of transferring to a Live server. This would mean a slow bleed out of the Live populations. However, not all details have been released and we will be closely monitoring how this is handled before further action.

Obviously this is rather monumental news for both the game and guild, and you should be expecting both in-game and RL email newsletters about these changes and what our plans/options are. There will also likely be a survey about what the guild members would prefer we do as a guild facing these changes. This will not be a leader only choice and I will rely heavily on the input of every single guildy. I think everyone here knows me well enough to know we will do the best we can to make everyone in the guild as happy as we can.

That's it for now, but as I said, expect to hear a lot more in the coming days/weeks as the details solidify and we learn more.

Bonus Weekend Result

I just wanted to thank everyone that was out and running around with us during the bonus weekend. We got everyone a lot of progress on AAs and tradeskills and more than a couple 90 dings!

The guild is also steadily leveling thanks to the effort everyone is putting in. Keep up the good work!

Looks like we are starting to hit the moderate to hard difficulty instances and going to the others to farm for needed tier 2 gear as necessary. Feel free to try and get something started when you are on!

The alliance has also started raiding the new expansion and we took down three of the early bosses in these zones without too much trouble, which is an excellent start. These raids are happening on Friday night, currently.

We are also continuing our running of battlegrounds, especially on Monday evenings. Come and attend if you have the time! It's always more fun with friends.

Sentinel's Fate Expansion Launch!

The newest EQ2 expansion is out tomorrow! I'm sure many of you are wondering where to begin, what there is to do, or what is going on in the guild for this expansion launch and beyond! Well, there are several threads that can solve your information woes.

First, while we are waiting for the expansion to launch, we will be hanging out on our teamspeak 3 server. This will allow us to banter a bit, but mainly it can server to make sure that once someone sees the servers up, we can all get in there ASAP to get started! Go discos! Information about how to get TS3 set up and logged into the server can be found on THIS THREAD.

Knowing when to expect the servers up and what to do once they are up can be found by checking out THIS THREAD.

Are you a crafter? Those wanting to dive into the enormous crafting questline right off the bat can look in THIS THREAD for information about what to expect and a complete walkthrough.

Also, the Guild Status Race to 90 begins upon launch! Let's all work together to get the guild up to 90 as fast as we can! There will also be a special reward for all leading participants if we are one of the first ten guilds to 90, and if we can manage that, I might even through in a bonus treat for the guild hall out of my own pocket. Details on the status race can be found in THIS THREAD.

We will also be focusing on a special event for launch: Craftathon 2010! Alpha has a long history of high level crafters, and we are setting up to try and break our record from last expansion! All crafters interested in this launch event, please check out THIS THREAD and sign up if you can!

We also greatly need some people willing to harvest in the new expansion for Craftathon. Those willing will be handsomely rewarded for their time and will be a huge help in maintaining AL crafting dominance for the new expansion. I can also guarantee some free spell/CA upgrades for those contributing heavily. I'll have to think of some special rewards to anyone willing to donate rares from the new tier for our crafters.

That about covers it for now! Let the expansion begin!

Teamspeak 3 Server Up

I know it's been awhile since the last news post, so I decided to share some good news. As some of you already know, Teamspeak 3 finally came out recently and we now have our teamspeak server running on it!

TS3 is a vast improvement over both TS2 and ventrillo, with oodles of options, rather miniscule ping, and amazing voice quality. We are already starting to use it for general banter out of game and for putting together game matches outside of EQ2. Feel free to stop on by!

The information on how to access the new server is all in THIS THREAD, and is rather painless to set up. All in all, we're loving it so far. The server has only been up for a few days as of this post and we've already had a ton of fun with it. Look forward to seeing you there!

Alpha Bash 2009

Thanks to everyone who came to the '09 Alpha Bash! We all had a great time and I know Misneach and I had a blast having you all here!

There is an album set up in the photo gallery for anyone wanting to upload pictures from the Bash. The pics from the white water tubing trip are already there. Anyone who wants to see Afee, Kag, Misneach, and Ravi in swimsuits should head over there! Same with anyone that wants to see Sabatia, Cawia, and Hells without their shirts on! This will definitely be happening again next year. So anyone who missed being able to attend will have another chance soon!

We'll have more info on how the bash went at a later time. Right now we are all kind of focused on getting the changes at the recent officer meeting put into action. More on that as I finish it off in the next couple days!

Website Operational Again

Thanks to Darfell's help, the website is back up and fully functional again. I'll be getting with him to see how we can avoid this in the future. Thanks again to Tork and Armous for trying to help figure this out with me before we could get Dar's assistance.

Stay tuned for some major changes to the site in the coming weeks.

A Big THANK YOU...

Goes out to Wima and Besia for putting together a fun event with great prizes for all participants. If you didn't get to participate, you missed out on some fun.

Wima and Besia put together a scavenger hunt where players had to locate items and NPCs then report back to them with what they found or where they found it, or some other sort of information. Upon correctly completing the task, the player was given another task to complete as well as some very nice house items made by Wima.

Misneach won the grand prize which was the Captive Void Beast. She decided to leave it in the guild hall for all to poke and prod, so Thanks a lot Misneach for sharing your prize with us all.

Because this event was well received, I am guessing there will be more to come, so stay tuned.

If you participated, please express your appreciation to Wima and Besia for their efforts in putting this together.

It is OUR Guild Hall. . .

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to the purchase and maintenance of our Guild Hall.

For those new to our guild, we've established a fee in coin and status which we require each member's main character (on an account) to pay per week.

The fee is 1 plat and 24000 status per week. If your main character isn't level 80 yet, the fee you should contribute is calculated using this formula:

1/80 of 1 plat x main character's level = contribution in coin
1/80 of 24000 status x main character's level = status contribution

or

(1 gold 25 sliver) x (main character's level)
(300 status) x (main characther's level)

We ask that you pick a day of the week to make your contribution, then contribute each week on that day of the week. If your main character is still leveling up, the amount you have to pay each week will increase as the level of your main character increases, therefore may need to be re-calculated each week until you reack level 80.

For accounting purposes, it is preferred that your main character always deposit the donations, but you can deposit contributions with other alt. characters on your account to equal the proper weekly amount that would be paid by your main character.

If you have any questions about this, please ask your guild leaders and officers.

As everyone contributes, we insure we will continue to benifit from all that goes with holding this guild hall.

Thanks again to all of you!

Best regards,

Rawl

Changes to Alpha leadership. Guild mergers, guild halls, WAR heraldry and more

With the advent of WAR, and the changes in guild membership over the last few months, it has been apparent that Alpha needs to move forward. This means both a change to our leadership structure as well as the guild fundamental focus. We might even have a bit of guild merger news. You know....nothing big.

Of course, we also have news concerning guild halls in EQ2. In addition, we have news regarding WAR heraldry.

All this combines into a must read guild news article.

Since this is a lot of information, please click read more for the full article.

WAR CE Launches!

WAR is here! CE players will start tomorrow afternoon at an estimated 1PM EST.

The votes have been tallied. Despite Tae's attempt to sway our evil hearts, destruction won. I also did a vote tonight of the people we could get a hold of for what server to pick. The vote ended in favor of Sylvania, the former cursed province of the Empire that was swallowed by the undead.

So, to make it clear:

Alpha Legion will be a Destruction guild on the Sylvania server.

If there are ANY questions during launch, feel free to stop into TS and ask, as several of us will be on while awaiting launch and during the first few hours.

The forum here will also be watched, but not continuously, so response time may be delayed. TS is your best bet if you need quick info.

See you in WAR!

-Hells

EDIT! WAR now launches at 12PM EST! An hour early!
